11 private universities lost full operational license





11 private universities have lost their bids for full operational license. The universities failed to meet the National Universities Commission's (NUC) requirements. According to the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, said the requirements covered the facilities, staff among other things.

'' Interim accreditation was given for 3 years, then we visited and inspected the university's facilities, staff quality land distributions especially in parameter structure, we also check the governance structure and requirements and the hectares of their land if its 100 hectares.'' Okojie said

''Precisely accreditation is a monitoring process which enables the commission to keep academic programs of a university in check and for necessary advice to be given if any challenge arise.''

Okojie said the 11 private universities have been given an extension of two years to reassess its staff strength to student ratio and its facilities in order to get full accreditation for all programs in the various schools. 

The NUC boss gave full operational license to 9 private universities including Afe Babalola University, Nigerian Turkish Nile University, Caleb University and Veritas University and five others.
