The Nigerian Navy has destroyed an illegal refinery in Rivers state. The men of the Nigerian Navy arrived at the jetty in Port Harcourt, on board gun boats pf the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, on a routine operation against oil theft which has been intense for the past two months.

Naval officers sailed through the crude oil polluted water before arriving at the illegal refinery.
Mr. Innocent Ejiofor, who is the base commander, took Channels Television round the site with locally designed refining tools before the naval officers set the place on fire.
Shots were fired into the air to scare off any possible attack from the militants in the area.
''The base usually carries out this kind of operation regularly based on our naval intelligence report. The crude oil thieves use boats to carry stolen products, then discharge it into a tank for onward refining with local refinery made of manually constructed tanks,'' Ejiofor said.
So far about 78 illegal refineries and over 900,000 liters of stolen crude have been destroyed by the Navy in the last two months.
After setting the local refinery on fire, the officers returned to the jetty where the Chief of Naval staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas addresses the officials.
Hes said they are restrategizing to make life unbearable for crude oil thieves in Nigeria.
''We are redefining our patrol strategies to ensure that we create more choke points so that when you still what you want to steal, you cannot have access into the open sea,'' Ibok said
